Readers Meet Authors And Bloggers – One On One

These days, when I want to do something and I don’t know how, I generally just wade on in and have a go anyway.  This leads to mistakes and quite often, breakages.  Having wandered through life totally focused on one thing or another, I miss quite a lot of other things going on around me, and often come across so dim that I probably should be embarrassed.  I never am though.  That’s just who I am, and if I give anyone a reason to chuckle at my ineptitude as I barge on forward like a bull in a china shop, that’s alright by me.  I like a good chuckle too.

 

Now, it occurs to me that as an indie writer, I really want to connect with actual readers of my work.  I want to know what they think, and if they like what I write, I want them to know where to find any tales that I have out there.  Twitter is great for this.  Facebook is great for connecting with other writers, and some groups there are very useful for self promotion.  Self promotion being the whole point of being an independent writer.  If you don’t do it, nobody else will.

 

I joined Google+ a while ago, but really just went squint for an hour or so, trying to figure out how it all worked.  I’ve ignored it ever since.  Until yesterday it occurred to me that that really is where all the action is.  I’m sure that giant Google trembled a few times as I crashed through, sticking my nose in all over the place, and surprisingly not offending anyone.  Well – at least I wasn’t cursed roundly and told to get out.  There seems to be a really friendly bunch of people out there.  I’ve connected with several new groups there, and generally trawled around to see what was happening.  I loved seeing all the new faces, and the way things pop up all over the place.  I’m pretty sure, that if you’re on Google, you’re going to be a lot more visible.

 

Communities are very visible, and any related searches could very well lead to new reading friends for me.  That’s my quest, so, I decided to conduct an experiment.  I’ve started a new community there, and called it Readers Meet Authors And Bloggers.  To be truthful, I’ve lost it a few times, and so far it has a membership of one – me.  I’ve also managed to invite myself to view it, which is nice.  I haven’t invited anyone to join it yet, because I really can’t figure out how to do that yet.  I will eventually.  Hopefully without breaking anything.  I will leave it to stew a little, and see what happens.  Of course I’ll invite all of my Twitter and Facebook friends, when I figure out how, as I said.  For the moment, I’ll post the link here for anyone who would like to join and post links to their books, blogs, or anything else, there.

 

For those writer friends of mine that ask, “Where else can I market my book?”, I tell you now that this untapped resource looks great to my beady eye.  If you haven’t joined up, I really suggest you do.  The site is actually quite easy to operate once you do, and very user friendly.  I have a gmail email account, and experimented with all the Google buttons at the top of the page for the first time.  You can access everything on the web right from there.  News, images, blogs – you name it.  Also, when a G+ notification pops up, you can respond to it right away without opening anything, like you have to with Facebook.  In the new year I will find more ways to attract lots of readers, authors, and bloggers to this community, but in the meantime feel free to head on over.  You can be number two in the group, and ride along on my quest for world domination.  Just kidding about the world domination.  Or am I?
