Begone Foul Shade!

Posted on Updated on

I’ve crested my tantrum limit level, and moved over to the other side – laughter. Sometimes things just get so ridiculous that you have to. I’ve decided to take the high road, and not give whatever little nobble-a-writer demon it is that is doing his level best to… well…, nobble me, the pleasure of whining about the challenges of the last few weeks. I will instead say, that at the rate I’m going, trying to fix glitches all over the place with only a couple of hours of power a day to log on, I will soon be able to charge for my services as a vessel of supreme knowledge of arbitrary glitches. The final glitch repair currently involves the removal of the back of my computer, giving its innards a little vacuum, and finding out the meaning of errors dhep and tcpip. Some sort of running out of space thing – delete stuff you tool – sort of thing. Apparently this is what’s causing it to reboot itself every time I get to some key point in whatever it is I’m doing. Then there was the flying halogen bulb shattering incident. And I won’t mention the egg thing again.

You see where I’m going here? It’s a frontal attack. Combined with the recent iniquitous widget WordPress debacle, and the malevolent fiddling with the electricity, this final torment can only be the work of a particularly foul demon straight from the seediest neighbourhood of the nether regions of hell. Rotten little sod. And then. I loudly wished Shakespeare happy birthday today instead of yesterday. The internet being what it is, I’m sure a bit of his shade is lurking in there somewhere, plotting revenge against a scribbler, of all people, getting the date wrong. Anyway.

Horrible as quite a few of the learning curves I’ve been on have been, I’m quite glad that I’ve stuck it out. Knowledge acquired is never lost. Unless you get bashed by a falling bit of space rock, which, just lately, doesn’t seem implausible. But all in all, not too bad a trip, as far as my trips are capable of going.

Till next time friends. xxx

Jo Dearie, I always do so enjoy reading your posts. 🙂 You make me feel I’m not alone in my tackling of all that is trying to keep me from sanity and getting things done. Wheeeeheeee! But we shall prevail and not let those pesky demons, or glitches get to us. xoxo

You are a love Lucy! I’ve got a cheek trying to do this from where I live maybe, 😀 We will prevail – you already are! Well done with your nominations on AuthorsDB!!!

Ouch. 😦 Fate must have been saving up the bad stuff for you recently. I’ve noticed that it really does come in batches. Hopefully once you’ve got all this madness sorted out you’ll have some peace again.

Just one little thing – be careful how you vacuum inside your pc. I once fried my motherboard doing that. Now I just use a small paintbrush to flick the dust at the vacuum nozzle. Hmmm…. should probably do a bit of autumn cleaning in there myself…

My Mother always said to expect these things in threes. 😀 I’m sorry I’m late with replying – could’t log on yesterday – and I’m really glad to have read this before the vacuuming! I’ll try your suggestion – thanks! We get a lot of red dust flying around here. It really clogs up everything. Isn’t it amazing what falls under writer’s job descriptions. 😀 xx

What an great way to describe your recent technological hurdles and hassles. When most people do this on-line, they just come off as whiny; and although we all dread data loss, its hard to feel real empathy for those types.
I recently lost weeks of work when my hard-drive crashed (and am still patiently waiting to hear if it can be repaired). Having been there before, and trying to put rid myself of whiny ‘first world’ mentality, this time I just did a ‘whatever, there are worse things that could happen’, and moved on.
However, now I am slightly envious….or maybe its awe I am feeling? Jo, you are a talented writer to take that frustration and give it such a creative twist. Can’t wait to read more of your posts!

What a lovely thing to say – thank you Karen! I think I might be tempted to whine a bit if I lost weeks of work though. That’s a real loss, because you could never remember all you have done. Someone suggested emailing your work to yourself every day. This would work because it would safely sit there till you delete it. Helps if you remember to do it – I never do. I really hope your hard drive gets fixed. xx
