Monday Tag a Book Day!

I’ve been invited to participate in a Blog Chain by Mary Clark author of:
http://www.amazon.com/Tally-Intuitive-Life-Mary-Clark-ebook/dp/B00ES29YIA/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&sr=1-1&qid=1377536398
It is raining love in Greenwich Village. . . When Erin, a young poet, reads these words on a piece of folded paper in the garret of Paul Johnston (PJ), an elderly Bohemian artist, she does not know she is on the threshold of a life-changing adventure. She is brought together with PJ by Rogue, another poet, who has known PJ for a decade. Her presence creates tension between the two men. And PJ confides in her that he needs the female perspective in his study of human nature. PJ is a living example of Greenwich Village’s “revolution of consciousness.” Coming to the Village in 1919, he took in the full flavor, substance and style of the Bohemian philosophy of life. Over the years, through his heightened awareness, he created his own philosophy. He and Erin embark on a journey through the human psyche. Erin learns of PJ’s death and rebirth after an operation at the age of 40, in the skeleton of the man he had been. He is reborn into a second innocence, but has the mind and memory of a grown man. In his search for new reasons to live, he forms new identities: The Artist, the Professor of Love, and The Old Man, among others. But who is PJ? And who will Erin become?

Thank you so much for including me Mary!

The rules of this tag are to answer the following four writing questions, and then tag three other authors. Next week, March 10, 2014, these three authors will answer the same questions if they want to, and tag three others, and so the chain continues to grow larger. This will enable readers to get to know more authors and their books. It will also allow everyone to get to know these authors a little better.

Questions:

1. What are you currently working on?

I haven’t had any time to write anything coherent for a week, for the moment, I’m editing and tweaking a couple of my works in progress, and making me wonder how many I should allow myself to actually have in progress at the same time. A while ago my dear friend, cover designer, tireless supporter of indie authors, and known to sip on banana Bellinis while surveying his domain at The Story Reading Ape, while swinging from his hammock in the rafters, mentioned something on one of my blog posts. He was probably joking – but still…. One of my WIP’s is a comedy space opera, currently named Revenge of the Killer Mushrooms. Yes. It really is. Thanks that Ape!

2. How does your work differ from others in the same genre?

I’m a multi-genre scribbler. I seem to take on a whole different persona with each different one that I write. But I think that the way I write wouldn’t make it overly difficult to spot that they are all by the same writer. An author’s writing style is what makes each one of our books different from others. Unless you’re a rampant, thieving plagiarist, in which case. Well…….

3. Why do you write what you do?

Sometimes I write for the love of a particular story, sometimes for fun, and sometimes I have a point I want to get across. And then sometimes I think that I’m just the vessel, and the stories that constantly pour into my head are all floating around in the universe just waiting for some unsuspecting scribbler to possess.

4. How does your writing process work?

Going to repeat myself here. Yes – word for word too! Generally it begins with a character. These people (or dragons, or sentient chickens) arrive fully named and clothed generally, and let me know what they plan to be getting on with. On the couple of occasions that things stopped flowing naturally on their own, I ended up with some really rotten pages, so I never try to force the words anymore – I zoom off and spend some time with my friends on the wonderful web – which is currently still mostly locking me out by the way. Now that I’m getting a little more experience as a writer, I make sure to make notes of characters and scenes as I go along. I also stick poster sheets on the wall, and jot in possible future scenes and character information on that too.

Now to pick my three books. GOSH I’m bad at maths!

First Book:

I’ve read the first book in the Sage series by Marian Allen. Love it! And Marian Allen also. She is wonderfully kind, but she has a truly wicked sense of humour. The best kind to have!

http://www.amazon.com/Fall-Onagros-Sage-Marian-Allen-ebook/dp/B00HFIJ06K/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1393851812&sr=1-1&keywords=Sage+by+marian+allen

In the first book of the SAGE trilogy, a legacy is lost, a woman vanishes into thin air, wisdom is found in unexpected places, and a man hopes to defeat a tyrant with tall tales and gossip.

One:

This whole series by Lord David Prosser are on my to be read list. How’s that for a name drop people! He is one of the most wonderful humans on the planet, and I adore his weekly blog posts.

http://www.amazon.com/My-Barsetshire-Diary-Diaries-ebook/dp/B0054JI824/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1393851950&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=the+barsetshire+diaries+by+sir+david+prosserhttp://www.amazon.com/My-Barsetshire-Diary-Diaries-ebook/dp/B0054JI824/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1393851950&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=the+barsetshire+diaries+by+sir+david+prosser

A fictitious look at Lord David’s day as a member of the Gentry living in a samll village. Come and meet the villagers like Mellors the gardener with a past and Grizelda the housekeeper. Join us at the village fete where Edna is determined to win the jam making competition at any price. See how the formidable Lady J intends to knock Lord David into shape.
Is the famous stiff upper lip his only protection? Is anyone really this naive? The answer is a resounding YES !

Two:

Karen Wyld is another in my collection of favourite people. Her writing is nothing short of sublime, and she is one of few authors I’ve come across who can reach into a reader’s heart and make it feel exactly what she wants it to, effortlessly.
http://www.amazon.com/When-Rosa-Came-Home-Karen-ebook/dp/B00H9DF0AG/ref=la_B00H9EWVN4_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1393852494&sr=1-1

When they open the door for their wayward daughter, Rosa’s parents are not prepared for who else turns up at the Ambrosio family vineyard.

….the spirit of a poet, nurses who crochet magical rugs, a beautiful bearded lady, elephants from the dreamscape, a médecin sans medicine and his dancing python, a jealous stable-hand, acrobatic pirates of the dark web, a sleeping beauty with a secret or two, and a young girl who longs for a new sister….

Angelita Ambrosio narrates the stories of her secret sister’s time on the road, and yearns for adventures of her own. Amid precious tales, graciously shared by Rosa’s eclectic friends, a fractured family is reunited.

Not everyone is pleased to see Rosa return – peril lurks in dark places. Fear not: with a sprinkling of cosmic dust, a cloud of sawdust and a touch of magic, a new dawn will bloom – now that Rosa has come home.

Karen Wyld has created a captivating first novel. Borrowing elements of literary fantasy, magic realism and vintage storytelling, this contemporary novel is unashamedly whimsical, allegorical, frivolous and thought-provoking.

Three:

I have already shared Red Gone Bad by my awesome author friend Lucy Pireel, but today I want to share another of her books, and not only because she’s a talented writer, but because sometimes Karma has to be a beauty, and pay back a little of all the work she does for other indies out there. You rock Lucy Pireel!

http://www.amazon.com/Menu-Death-Lucy-Pireel-ebook/dp/B00FH95CTI/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1393855035&sr=1-1&keywords=menu+of+death+by+lucy+pireel

Underneath the veneer of humanity lies a darkness. A Menu of Death is a collection of eight short stories that explore what is hidden.
Would you do what it takes to obtain your darkest desires?

Wishes gone wrong, unhealthy obsessions, and cravings to satiate.

A Menu of Death will take you on a blood-curdling journey that you may not survive.

A good light-hearted response to the questions ( glad to find another any-genre-goes) writer refusing a straight jacket. The choices all seem worthy of being dubbed ‘next’!

Yours in on my chain gang list Philippa! 😀 I reckon maybe I won’t do more than one more though. What other genres do you partake in? They’ll never straight jacket us! 🙂

Great article Jo – I had to re-blog this! I hope one of the one authors also lists the wonderful books of Martin Lake. Perhaps I should start a readers version of this great idea too. 🙂

Thank you Dee! How have you been? I’m really sorry to be so late, but I haven’t been able to log on properly for any decent period of time lately. There’s another storm brewing right now again too, so I want to google how to move to the desert now. I think that it would be great if you started one on your site – I’d love it. And you can create cool banners and things too with your talents. 🙂 XXXXXXX
