I was forming what I think may have been a halfway educated comment when I was distracted by your book cover. Beautiful job on that!

Well said missus….We are celebrating our 10th year as publishers and we keep a low profile to be honest and just work quietly away. We have worked with writers who are publishing for all the reasons that you mention and every single one of them has been thrilled to hold their first book in their hands. Some have sold very well and others have gone onto publish 3 or 4 books. We have learned from experience that if the author is not to be disappointed that we need to encourage them to edit or have someone edit their books before we start formatting – really for their own end satisfaction. It is they who are disappointed when the book does not live up to their expectations. Today you are right, E-books are relatively quick, however their formatting can be more complex especially with photos and graphs.
The beauty is that there is a freedom and instead of a 20 something publishing assistant making a decision to publish or not – we can for ourselves. I see it from two sides – I am glad I made the decision to self-publish 14 years ago and will keep turning them out, and on the other front it has been a privilage to work with such committed and enthusiastic writers who want to share their words.
Blogging is essentially giving away writing for free for the majority of us and so why not give away your first book – you can learn a great deal from that experience that you can put to good use in the future.
