Quickie Twitter Tip
When you’re looking for a tweet to retweet, sometimes you have to scroll down…. and down….. and then down some more…… People who retweet a lot (such as myself) are a sometimes hard work to pay back, and I’m sure that a lot of potential retweeters eventually give up. Also, sometimes you’ll tweet a link that you really would like loads of retweets for, but instead you only get your blurry chicken shot retweeted, and hardly anyone in Twitterverse gets to find out about your gorgeous new release because it got swamped by a sea of tweets.
What you can do is pin a fresh tweet every day which will stay right at the top of your stream, making it easier for your retweeters, and better for your news. At the bottom of your sent tweet, click on the MORE icon, select PIN, and Bob’s your uncle! Change it every day simply by pinning another one.

Excellent advice. A problem I always have- finding a tweet that reflects the person themselves in amongst all their generosity to others!

Some people are cool that way – tweeting others posts and so on straight from the original sites. I generally also look for something from actual tweeter, but retweet what they share too. When I tweet something from another site, I’m always chuffed when it gets retweeted. π

I tried the suggestion but my ‘more’ did not offer a ‘pin’ option. Is this only available with an updated Twitter account?

I know they changed things a week or two ago. I got it when I saw a message asking if I wanted to see the new look. After a bit, it said I could keep it that way. Prior to this, I don’t remember there being anything about ‘pinning’ under the options. I don’t think the change is fully implemented yet.

I think there are more changes coming Charles – the old Twitter was really timeconsuming, but the new version is really cool. Have you got the pin option on yours?

Me too – I’m always ocd about paying back retweets, but scrolling down for ten minutes looking for something to RT is rotten, and sometimes even I just give up. π

Right. I’m useless at Twitter and wish I wasn’t. I pick up a new follower every now and then, but I’m not sure why. People say its a good way to market your books, but then I’m very aware that authors can easily drift towards being self-interested and self-centred bores and I don’t wish to be that. I did sort of pick something up here, but I’ve not even really grasped the # thing yet

π I reckon that the worst way to market your books is to shove them in people’s faces all the time, and never say anything else. A lot of writers only ever follow or retweet other writers, so I would think that maybe a better way to find genuine readers is to interact and tweet a variety of things that interest you. I’ve picked up a couple of new readers via Twitter who aren’t also writers, but I’ve come to the conclusion that you shouldn’t treat it as purely a marketing tool – rather just have fun, and occasionally toss in a book ad or two. I very seldom buy books from writers who just post ads of their books every day, but that’s just me – maybe they do sell to others. Once you get in there and make a couple of friends, it’s just as much fun as blogging. π

Following you too Peter. Twitter is a lovely place to be I reckon. π I see you are following more than who follow you – those who don’t follow you don’t see your tweets, so unless they are someone you are a fan of, they’re no use to you, and also, when you reach 2000 who you follow, if you don’t have an equal amount of people following you, Twitter won’t allow you to follow any more. I suggest that you google the free JustUnfollow and join the site. Then let it hook up to your Twitter feed, and it will show you who is not following you back – click on the icons of the ones you don’t need and their mini profile will pop up – hit the unfollow button. A lot of people think that it’s cool to have a huge following of people, and what they do is follow you first, then a while after you follow them back they unfollow you, so it’s good to check in with JustUnfollow every now and then to do a clearout. π

Ok, following your excellent advice, I’ve gone through my list and reduced the number I am following, so that I now follow two less than follow me, which is not too bad. I didn’t know that those who had not followed you did not get your tweets, so presumably, only those who do follow you get them, How I actually get more followers, who actually take an interest in my Blog or book remains a mystery to me, but never mind eh π
