Meet My Main Character Blog Tour

I’ve been tagged by the hugely inspiring author of Tally: An Intuitive Life, Mary Clark, to take part in a Meet My Main Character blog hop. The rules of this hop are to answer some questions about the main character in a work in progress, and then tag authors who you admire to join the hop if they want to.

The Questions:

1. What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?

I’ve decided to introduce my main character in the first stand alone book in my Ghostwriter series. Her name is Judith. Although she is the main character in the whole series of books, her clients get most of the space.

2. When and where is the story set?

This book is set in the present in South Africa. Most of the books in this series are set here, although Judith does get around and about in some of them.

3. What should we know about him/her?

Judith is a ghostwriter specialising in memoirs. Her clients are mainly elderly and rich. She is really good at what she does, charges highly for her work, and lives very well. Most of the stories she takes down are humdrum, but occasionally she’ll come across a special client, with a very special tale to tell.

4. What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?

She tries very hard not to get emotionally involved with her clients. Unfortunately, under a tough, glossy, professional exterior, Judith is a softy, and sometimes finds herself entangled in the lives of strangers who have captured her heart.

5. What is the personal goal of the character?

She believes that her goal is to do what she does as well as she can, and earn enough money to live very comfortably for the rest of her life. Unfortunately her personal goalposts tend to move when she comes across certain lives.

6. Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?

This book is called Emmaline, and I’ll post a piece of it when it’s a little more polished in a couple of weeks. Its cover will be a little different to the one it currently has though.

7. When can we expect the book to be published?

Soon – definitely this year.

I just choose those writers who I admire, and whose processes I especially want to know more about. Here they are.

Sally Cronin always blows me away with the things she does. It’s amazing to be really brilliant at just one thing, but Sally is an expert on health and nutrition, and publishing – not to mention that she’s hosted real live on air radio shows. She’s a popular author too, so I’m hoping she’ll partake in this hop, and most important of all, she’s my lovely forever friend.

Another author whose current work in process I’d love to poke my nose in is Janice Spina. Again she is one of those busy authors who always finds time to support and recognise Indie writers. It takes a special kind of person to write for children, and do it so well. It’s not surprising that we all love authors like this – they’re just inspiring in every way.

Completing my triad of powerfully talented authors is Olga Nunez Miret. I’m a little starstruck by Olga. She’s a brilliant author, but I hasten to add, also a translator, and forensic psychiatrist. With all of that, she is another wonderful, kind soul who always makes the time to boost and support all the rest of us. Rockstar in my book.
