I’m participating in Catherine Ryan Howard’s Self-Printed 3.0 Splash event today. She is celebrating the launch of the third edition of her excellent book Self-Printed: The Sane Person’s Guide to Self-Publishing. Catherine will be answering various self-publishing related questions asked by her fans on sites around and about the internet today. Be sure to visit her for the chance to win cool stuff – her posts are gold for the self-published author, and always entertaining. Now to the question I asked, and her answer.

Jo’s Question: I’d like to know how to put page numbers in properly when publishing with Createspace – so that they don’t start from the very first page of the book.

Catherine’s Answer: You actually inspired me to write a whole, long, detailed (VERY detailed!) blog post on this subject, so thank you! It is a pain but if you go slow and follow my instructions step by step, you’ll be fine. You can find the blog post here Inserting Page Numbers and Running Heads.

Awesome! This is a brilliant and easy to follow tutorial, so I should finally get this right first time.

Catherine Ryan Howard is a writer, self-publisher and caffeine enthusiast from Cork, Ireland. SELF-PRINTED: THE SANE PERSON’S GUIDE TO SELF-PUBLISHING (3rd edition) is out now in paperback and e-book and available from Amazon. Follow the #selfprintedsplash on Twitter today (Friday 24th) and/or visit Catherine’s Website for chance to win an amazing prize that will get your self-publishing adventure started!

“SELF-PRINTED is my self-publishing bible. It taught me how to format, create and upload my e-books and print-on-demand paperbacks. It showed me practical things such as how to build a website/blog and how to promote my books. More importantly, it taught me how to compete with the professionals. Just look at the results – The Estate Series has sold nearly 100,000 copies and following that I got a traditional book deal with Thomas & Mercer too, so I’m now a hybrid author. Jam-packed full of hints and tips all in one place, I’m always referring back to it. In a word, it’s priceless.” – Mel Sherratt, author of The Estate Series and DS Allie Shenton Series

I have thought about self-publishing, but the technical aspects really do frighten me. I need to read this book

So… this book has all these words *and* exclamation marks?! I, for one, am sold. 😀

Seriously, I am. It sounds like Catherine tackles a tricky subject with gusto. And I love a sense of humour. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

She’s lovely Nicholas – I’ve been following her blog for a long time now, and even though she is hilarious, she also shares a lot of solid advice. HUGS! 🙂
