PS – Pre-made Book Covers

Posted on

I’ve started loading book covers for sale on my new Pre-made Book Covers tab at the top there. I must admit that it’s quite nerve wracking, but never mind, I love making them so it’s very unlikely that I’ll stop now.

All of them are made with my own photos or sketches so far. I might use stock or public domain pictures in the future, but only ever for very small elements or manipulated to totally individual works. I’ve resized them for web use, so I’m wondering about the visual quality as they are, so I’ll tack on a very high resolution image here just in case anyone thinks the web size is a bad idea. Hopefully easy to see. I’m working on a haunted house cover at the moment – love it – but only in between the scribbling and editing. I’d really love it if anyone has any ideas for covers to make. I don’t want them to be too generic, and I don’t have tons of ideas myself.

Thank you Takami! Yours is the first opinion, and I’m really glad you like them. Phew! Hopefully I’ll get better as I go along – I’ve gotten a little rusty with the art. HUGS! ❀ πŸ™‚

You are lovely my friend! Lions! That’s a brilliant idea – here I am in Africa thinking of butterflies and typewriters. πŸ˜€ X

Your country (and the huge continent) has an amazing heritage of wildlife, culture and nature. The themes must be endless πŸ™‚

It really does, and I know that a lot of people are interested in Africa. I suppose that living here I’m interested in seeing the rest of the world. Yours is the best idea and a new project for me. πŸ™‚

I’ve got two on the go right now Jack. One with a Mars cliff background and a animal skull and bits, and the other a bit time warpey (new word). πŸ˜€ If you have any suggestions I’d be a very happy bunny – I need ideas! XXXX

Thank you Craig! I’m just starting out with it all – but I’m really so happy to be back doing art of any kind. Making it especially with book covers in mind is lovely – the best form for me I reckon. I can’t wait to see one of these on somebodies book! πŸ™‚

Thank you! I think that if you love making covers you should go for it. Bespoke covers are seriously expensive in the hundreds of dollars, and most times beyond the means of Indie authors. If you sell your covers cheaply you not only get the fun of creating, but also get to help fellow scribblers out with one of a kind covers for their books so that’s all for the good of the tribe I reckon. Lots of traditional publishers use stock images with very slight variations in colour or placement and I’ve seen loads of reproductions, so have at that art and help while doing what you love I reckon.

If you are looking for ideas for your next cover and do not have the necessary skills then it is a great idea to collaborate with someone who has.. Pop over to Jo’s and have a chat about your ideas and I am sure that you can work something out that will be both original and very inexpensive.

Thanks Annie! I’m doing all genres – I’ve got one in the works at the moment that would work for erotica. I’ll post it in the next couple of days. I’d love some ideas from an expert such as yourself though – what sort of images would you like to see?

Thank you! Thank your son too! I’ve been trying to teach myself the computer graphics, and I’m probably a bit too long in the tooth so that bit has gone slow. It’s a lovely thing though – I generally start with a drawing or a photo. Does your son share his work online anywhere? I’d love to see some! πŸ™‚
