What’s In A Name? – Short Stories – Alexander

I am working my way through the alphabet with this series of short stories. Each letter will have two stories for a girl’s name and a boy’s name. Babies are given names that are with them for the rest of their lives. Some are easy to grow into and others… well they take a little more time and perseverance.

Today Alexander and the story of a boy who struggled to live up to its illustrious past.

The name Alexander has been around for thousands of years. It is the Latin form of the Greek name Alexandros which meant ‘defending men’. In Greek mythology it was the alternative name for the hero Paris. Probably the most famous who bore the name was Alexander the Great, King of Macedon. In the 4th Century BC he established a huge empire stretching from Greece, Egypt, Persia and parts of India. Tales about him…
