Smorgasbord - Variety is the spice of life

We remained in our Tuebrook flat in Liverpool until January 1982 when we had saved up enough to buy our first home a few miles up the coast in Southport. The house was a few roads back from Lord’s Street and was an Edwardian double-fronted semi-detached house in need of TLC.

Moving day was a nightmare. Money was tight and we had opted to move our belongings by a hired transit van and David headed off early on the Saturday morning to pick it up just as a snow storm kicked off.

We trekked up and down the three flights of stairs with all our books, clothes, assorted crockery and kitchenware and David took off with the first of three trips to the new house. We had owned the property for several days and I had used my manager’s discount at Owen & Owen to buy a new bed and…
