New Things

Busy Birds
Busy Birdies

After this past year of epic chaos interestingness, I am happy to say that  I have learned a lot, and strangely, even the really unpleasant lessons are now showing me their value – retrospect is a fine thing indeed. Now, tempered to the strength of old boots, while hopefully not looking too much like one of them, I am happy to say that there is quite a lot of fabulousness to come over the next few weeks. Beginning with the epic launch in the next weeks of the beginning of her public life, Cynthia Reyes’ amazing Myrtle the Purple Turtle, closely followed by some unadulterated genius of science-fiction by the one and only Joelle LeGendre there is a lot coming up – all happy and wonderful beginnings from some very talented people.

I’ve made sure this time, that failing the actual end of the world (wasn’t that supposed to be today by the way? – ah well – maybe later – the day is still young) no internet or other problems will be tolerated. Calmness rules now….mostly…..ahem.

Zen Birdie
Zen Birdie

I haven’t been twiddling my thumbs while being mostly in internet darkness. I have found ways, which include zooming around the bush, swearing in ways that only writers can, in my car holding my laptop out of the window looking for signal, to ensure that the important things don’t get lost or undone because of internet devils ever again. I’ve mainly concentrated on work, such as illustrating, editing, proofing and so on over the past months, relegating my social media activity to the last place in the line – obviously focusing on making sure that I don’t let any of my authors down with the surreal things that have happened to try and knobble me – that red guy with the tail and fork kind of overplayed his hand though – it’s impossible for those kinds of problems to win when you’re looking at them and giggling hysterically – hah!

First up. Look out for Myrtle’s introduction here in the next day or two, where I will share the story of how she came to be, and the amazing woman who created her, together with her wonderful and inspiring family, and the honour and pleasure of being allowed to bring that gorgeous little turtle to life with illustration. I will tell all in Myrtle and Cynthia’s own post though – I’m just saying Hi Again to all of you lovely bloggers with this one. Hiiii there guys!!!

Myrtle the Purple Turtle

Hope the Internet holds, but good to hear you got a lot done. Nice cover.

Thanks Charles – it’s great to see you again! I’ve got backup now, so while it would be nice if it holds, I’m still going to stay online. Amazing really – the last “disconnection” was a one in a million ricochet gunshot – these things happen I suppose. I should start a show like that one with the weirdest ways to expire – using the weirdest ways ;to lose internet instead. Is all well with you?

Ricochet gunshot? That’s definitely a new reason to lose internet. At least to me. Things are going. Put out a new book last weekend, but it’s not doing as well as I’d hoped. Second to last volume of my fantasy series too. I’m hoping the finale in December goes off without a problem. I’ve got around 25 unique guest posts already, which is a good sign. Beyond that, I’m just limping along. This week was rather chaotic, so I haven’t even written my ‘goal post’ yet. Aiming to get that done this afternoon.

It was weird – he was letting off a shot just for noise to chase baboons away from the kitchen – I reckon it would take a barrel of sharpshooters to hit that cable once on purpose. I’m sorry I missed so much! Sign me up for the finale party – would not want to miss that! Do you reckon you’re going to feel odd with the series finished?

Wow. Didn’t expect baboons in the story. It’ll be odd to finish. What topic would you want to write about? Trying to make a unique post for wax volunteer.

Thanks, Jo. I’m doing okay. We lost my husband in February and I’m seriously thinking of moving back to the U.S. from here in India. It was sad but he was 86 and had been bedridden for several years after breaking his hip. He didn’t want an operation. I had a full-time caregiver for him who has stayed on to help me. Both my children are in the U.S. I now have the flat in my name so can sell it if I can find a buyer. It’s in a good location. I’m glad to hear you’re doing well. All the best. 🙂 — Suzanne

I hope you find a buyer soon Patricia! When I think of India I think of The Best Marigold Hotel, but I suppose reality is very different, and sometimes even though the journey home is hard it’s very good for the soul. Wishing you love and LOTS of epic good fortune! XXX

So good to see you here, Jo. I feel truly blessed to work with you. And I’m sorry about the internet darkness — how frustrating. But that image of you zooming around in the bush, swearing as only writers can, and holding your laptop out the window cracks me up! It’s worthy of a scene in a book or a movie.

Sorry…our adventures with renovations on the house keep booting me offline. I will be so happy when it is all done and we sell this place and move to the coast. Working on book two in the Naked Eye series, and not nearly as far along as I would like to be.
