A Couple of Questions and Cover Reveal

Posted on Updated on

After a couple of very ‘educational” years, and a whole lot of stress every time I happened to think about my unfinished work, and also my as yet unpublished books lying around gathering dust, I’ve come out the other side quite happy that I did not in fact publish them when I wanted to. It would not have been fun, and publishing a book should always be fun. After a couple of health scares to the point where I assumed that I was on the verge of departing this mortal coil, and stressing over every little thing, I finally realized that not only have I no intention of expiring any time soon, living in fear of the future, the present, or the past, is absolutely useless to anyone. So I decided that as far as my health was concerned, I was going to go herbal, and as far as anything scary was concerned, I was going to go eyeball to eyeball with whatever came up and see who caved first. So far I feel great health-wise with the herbals, and my inner critic and her cohort, the craven one, have gone into hiding. Which is why I am particularly happy that I never got around to publishing my non-fiction book, The Secret Life of People, because I had yet to figure out the final chapter by living it. Now it is almost ready to make its debut and I am more excited about it than anything else I’ve ever written. There are a couple of things I’d like to get a few people’s beliefs on, so I’d be grateful for any answers to the questions below. If you don’t want to put your opinions in the comments I would really appreciate an email via the contact me button above.

Other news is that Cynthia Reyes and her daughter Lauren’s Myrtle the Purple Turtle has already begun her third adventure, and it is, of course, just as fabulous as that little turtle’s adventures always are. I’m getting caught up quicker than I thought possible and very happy that my online friends are still going strong, and also still talking to me after my long absence. Here goes with the questions.

1. Do you believe that you are living a fulfilled life?
2. Do you think that people have a purpose, and if so, do you know what yours is?
3. Are you satisfied with the way the world and your country is governed?
4. Do you think that civilised societies today are on the right track?
5. If you work, are you happy with your job?
6. If money was no object, what would you do with your days?
7. Do you believe in life after death or reincarnation?
8. Do you believe that there will be consequences for good or evil acts?
9. Do you or someone that you know have problems with anxiety or depression?

Thank you!

    1. Do you believe that you are living a fulfilled life?
I wasn’t fullfilled until I started writing. The last 10 years of my life have been the best ever!

    2. Do you think that people have a purpose, and if so, do you know what yours is?
After a lot of soul searching, I realized that my purpose in life is to be the bad example that people shouldn’t follow 😀 In fact, several people have told me that watching what happened to me kept them from making the same mistake (that includes my kids).

    3. Are you satisfied with the way the world and your country is governed?
No. I am appalled that the world wants a global nation. Look at China. Look at the USSR under Stalin. I was taught in one of the psychology classes I took (you know, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth) that past behavior is a good indicator of future behavior. It means that once under a global regime, it is more likely that Earth will become like North Korea than a utopia. We need individual nations. We need diverse cultures in places where they’re comfortable.

    4. Do you think that civilised societies today are on the right track?
It’s according to your definition of civilized. One person’s “civilized” is another person’s “perverted.” For example; Jihadist think nothing of taking 11 year old girls for wives. We call that pedophelia

    5. If you work, are you happy with your job?
I LOVE my job. It’s the perfect fit. I LOVE writing, it’s the perfect fit. Now, all I need is for my book cover maker (who is an exceptionally talented person) to stay healthy, happy, and never have to work doing 2 jobs for the price of one, ever again.. 🙂

    6. If money was no object, what would you do with your days?
I would write, and ensure that my 5 goals in life were fullfilled.

    7. Do you believe in life after death or reincarnation?
I’ve been where I’m going after death. I have no fear of a place that’s “home.” But my job here isn’t finished yet. I don’t know about reincarnation.

    8. Do you believe that there will be consequences for good or evil acts?
The wolf hunting the rabbit starves if it can’t find food. The rabbit without the wolf to hunt it will multiply and die from starvation when it overgrazes, or die of disease. Nature doesn’t seem to care as long as there’s balance.

Humans have the capacity to be good stewards of the land, and to understand how to create a better world. Unfortunately, we have the tendency to give power to those who only want what is best for themselves without regard to what it does to others or the world (big pharma, big oil, politicians, etc.) As long as we do not have due diligence, we will continue to allow what we so desperately want to avoid, and suffer the consequence of failing to do what is necessary to prevent evil from living.

    9. Do you or someone that you know have problems with anxiety or depression?
We all have our ups and downs. Sometimes, depression isn’t really depression, but an untreated illness (such as hypo or hyper thyroid). And sometimes, depression is really unresolved grief (over the loss of a loved one or a beloved home) that hasn’t had a chance to heal. When there is no one to listen, when life is in a downspin that never ends, even the strongest among us caves. If you have either of these, depression meds are NOT going to work.

Depression meds can make depression worse for some people, but there are cases where depression medications do work. The problem is knowing which is which, and when to stop throwing drugs at a problem that might be due to poor diet or other medical issues.

I have airport anxiety, so the best thing to do is avoid the thing that causes anxiety. What has worked for me is to laugh at my own faults. Once I read the sarcasm and humor in it, I’m laughing — and with laughing comes healing. I like sharing that laughter with other. I also take herbal supplements (like tumeric) and vitamins. These help, too. Today, I’m having some Friendship Therapy with my best friend. We go to a restaurant, stay there for hours, and when we leave, both of us feel renewed.

ACV is horrible – the only way I found to counter the tears is to follow it up by munching down on a clove of garlic – shuts me up every time and adds to my collection of interesting responses when I get too close to anyone. 😀

    1. Do you believe that you are living a fulfilled life? Not from a work point of view, I am quite disillusioned with working for a corporate.
    2. Do you think that people have a purpose, and if so, do you know what yours is? I think mine is to write books to make children happy and adults intrigued
    3. Are you satisfied with the way the world and your country is governed? I live in South Africa, our government is corrupt and appalling.
    4. Do you think that civilised societies today are on the right track? In some ways. I think socialism is a good thing so that people are protected when they are unemployed or can’t work. Our extravagance and consumerism is not a good thing.
    5. If you work, are you happy with your job? No, see 1 above
    6. If money was no object, what would you do with your days? I would write full time
    7. Do you believe in life after death or reincarnation? No
    8. Do you believe that there will be consequences for good or evil acts? No

    1. Do you believe that you are living a fulfilled life? – Not particularly so no but more so now I work for myself than for others.
    2. Do you think that people have a purpose, and if so, do you know what yours is? I’m not sure we do or at least not sure everyone does. Mine is to help people.
    3. Are you satisfied with the way the world and your country is governed? Not in any way really.
    4. Do you think that civilised societies today are on the right track? 2 steps forward, one step back.
    5. If you work, are you happy with your job? Very much so with my Ye Olde England Tours and books.
    6. If money was no object, what would you do with your days? Write. Run a musky second hand book shop that few people go in. Travel…. live out of contact with civilisation.
    7. Do you believe in life after death or reincarnation? Yes
    8. Do you believe that there will be consequences for good or evil acts? I hope so but it doesn’t seem to work that way as much as it should in this world at least.
    9. Do you or someone that you know have problems with anxiety or depression? Sadly, yes.

Jo Robinson is about to publish ‘The Secret Life of People’, but she would like some answers to the questions below. I have added my answers, and hope you will copy the questions and publish your answers to help Jo finish the last chapter in her book.

Do you believe you are living a fulfilled life?

Yes. Life is what you make it. I’ve been married for nearly 40 years, and Sam and I are reaping the rewards from our time as parents. Our sons are grown with children of their own, and we love being a grandparents and having an extended family. I now also have more time to write novels, and still work part-time as a medical secretary.

Do you think that people have a purpose, and if so, do you know what yours is?

Yes, I think we’re all here for a purpose, and that purpose is to learn from our mistakes and grow spiritually.

Are you satisfied with the way the world and your country is governed?

No, not in the UK for a start, as that’s the only one I feel qualified to comment on. In my opinion all politicians are in it for personal glory, two houses, and the fat pay packet. The UK expenses scandal showed just how much MPs are prepared to use public money for their own financial gain. Then there have been numerous sex scandals/ child abuse scandals that were covered up for years. Good God, what a mess. What with the Brexit farce, these people couldn’t even organise a piss-up in a brewery.

Do you think that civilised societies today are on the right track?

I think it depends on what is being watched and listened to on the internet. The more porn/violence/rap videos that are watched will brutalise any vulnerable members of society even more.

If you work, are you happy with your job?

Yes. Working as a medical secretary makes me feel useful and valued. Plus I earn money from doing it!

If money was no object, what would you do with your days?

I’d buy a big house that includes lots of grounds, a swimming pool, a gym and a study. In this way I could exercise and write to my heart’s content!

Do you believe in life after death or reincarnation?

I don’t believe in reincarnation, but I do believe there is life after death. Spirits live on in another realm/plane which only a few of us can see while we’re alive.

Do you believe there will be consequences for good or evil acts?

    Yes, definitely.

Do you or someone that you know have problems with anxiety or depression?

I don’t personally, because as I said before, life is what you make it. However, my mother suffered with anxiety/depression all her life. She could never put her dysfunctional childhood behind her and move on, even 80 years later. If she could have done that, I’m sure she would have been much happier.

Thanks, yes! And here are my answers to your questions:
        1. Do you believe that you are living a fulfilled life? Yes, on the whole it does feel fulfilling, although there are always more things I’d like to do.
        2. Do you think that people have a purpose, and if so, do you know what yours is? Yes, I do think people have a purpose, which may change focus as they mature. I think my purpose is to help other people, and right now the focus is on helping families whose children have a diagnosis of autism.
        3. Are you satisfied with the way the world and your country is governed? No.
        4. Do you think that civilised societies today are on the right track? Unfortunately many societies are polarised, and so some citizens and politicians are trying to lead their country in what I feel is the right direction, but too many are doing the opposite.
        5. If you work, are you happy with your job? I love my job(s).
        6. If money was no object, what would you do with your days? I’d probably continue doing my jobs, just spend a little less time on each, and a little more time writing and painting.
        7. Do you believe in life after death or reincarnation? I’d like to…
        8. Do you believe that there will be consequences for good or evil acts?
        9. Do you or someone that you know have problems with anxiety or depression? Yes.
I hope my answers are of some help/use to you, Jo. Take care.

    Congratulations on your almost-debut!!! 😀

… herewith be my answers …
    1 – About half-way, maybe 2/3 on a good day, there.
2 – Yes, but of the eight-ish billion people living today, the percentage of them’s wot are doing it is very, very small . . . and yes, I do.
3 – Absolutely and to the n-th degree, no.
4 – What is your definition of ‘civilised society’, because as far as I can see there aren’t too many on our little blue planet that could be, by any stretch of the imagination, be called ‘civil’, including every major one for the last 10,000 years
5 – Yes, I am a writer. I work for myself. Best boss ever! 🙂
6 – Not worry about money, and basically keep on doing what I’m doing now, but with fringe benefits.
    7 – Yes.
8 – ‘Good’ and ‘evil’ are behavioural control mechanisms that are determined by the culture one engages with, most often within religious theocracies. I believe that there are ALWAYS consequences, and if one chooses not to accept the consequences of one’s actions then one is not necessarily ‘good’ or evil’ but is most certainly without honour.
9 – To greater and lesser degrees, those eight billion people I mentioned previously. We live in a world dominated by cultures that are antithetical to how humans need to exist in order to truly flourish.

    The cover looks great!
    1. Do you believe that you are living a fulfilled life? Yes, but I suspect if I thought about it enough I would change my mind.
    2. Do you think that people have a purpose, and if so, do you know what yours is? Not really; I think we try different things and if we’re lucky we discover work or interests that feel purposeful.
    3. Are you satisfied with the way the world and your country is governed? The world–no. I think we humans have really made a mess of it. Canada is generally governed well, even though we all complain about our government no matter which party forms it.
    4. Do you think that civilised societies today are on the right track? I think there are a lot of good intentions that sometimes achieve worthwhile ends, but humans seem to be generally short-sighted, greedy, and destructive, so on the whole I think we’re following the wrong track.
    5. If you work, are you happy with your job? I retired 3 years ago, and was quite happy to do so, even though I was quite fortunate in my working life as a librarian.
    6. If money was no object, what would you do with your days? I think I’m already doing pretty much what I want to.
    7. Do you believe in life after death or reincarnation? I don’t think we live on as individuals. Our spirits or essences dissolve into a world spirit, perhaps. I’m not sure about reincarnation, but if it happens, we don’t remember any past existences.
    8. Do you believe that there will be consequences for good or evil acts? In one’s present life, yes, there usually are consequences of one sort or another, internal or external. I have my doubts as to whether they transmit into an afterlife. (See #7.)
    9. Do you or someone that you know have problems with anxiety or depression? I have close family members who were diagnosed with depression. I think I’ve experienced it to some degree myself, but not to the point where it was debilitating.
These are interesting questions. I hope my answers are helpful.

    3. No, in that power greatly favours the privileged.

    I’ll give it a whirl…
    1. Do you believe that you are living a fulfilled life? I do now… finally!
    2. Do you think that people have a purpose, and if so, do you know what yours is? Purpose is what we give ourselves. If we don’t have a purpose then we remain functions.
    3. Are you satisfied with the way the world and your country is governed? No!
    4. Do you think that civilised societies today are on the right track? No! In fact, they’re on a fast track to extinction.
    5. If you work, are you happy with your job? Self employed and yes, I like it.
    6. If money was no object, what would you do with your days? Exactly what I’m doing now.
    7. Do you believe in life after death or reincarnation? I don’t have to believe “IN” either as I’m fully aware of the process, having remembered several past lives, and seen myself across tine to a thousand years into my future.
    8. Do you believe that there will be consequences for good or evil acts? There are consequences for all thoughts, words and deeds. The trick is to be consciously aware of it.
    9. Do you or someone that you know have problems with anxiety or depression? I know a few people who have periodic bouts of anxiety and/or depression. I try to get them to not dwell on it.

Wow – thank you for your answers! I looked around your website for a contact link but couldn’t see one. I would love to interview you a little more in depth – for blog and for the book – if you are willing please let me know – there is a contact me link at the top of this post.

Hi Jo, I can’t seem to find a way to place a ‘contact’ header on m bog – I’ll have to talk to the happiness people at WP about that. As to interview, I suppose we could do that even if the few interview I have engaged in so far have been disasters… or a complete waste of my time as I received no follow up on my answers… but whatever. We’re in full Spring mode here and my landscaping work is over the top, so my time is limited. Still your offer sounds intriguing. I’ll fill in the contact form and see where we go from here.

I have been diagnosed with Stage 3 endometrial cancer, last June, actually. I have chosen not to have radiation/chemotherapy on a very intuitive basis (which might be quite barmy, but who cares?) as I felt very strongly that’s not what my body wanted. I take herbal supplements, have changed my diet (not completely, but quite a bit, I tend to be a bit fanatical so I try to be fairly flexible) but more than anything I felt a sense of freedom – to create my digital art as and when I’m so drawn, to re-connect with the earth, the mystery, the stars and so on. I guess I need to do this because I find the world such a cruel place, so many people hateful, although I recognise that this is outweighed by the good! I have suffered from depression in the past but that was because I had low self-esteem from childhood and my controlling father. When I quit being responsible, reliable and nice, I never looked back. Started my work with alternative therapies, crystals, Reiki and art and never had a depressive episode since. I do say I was lucky as it wasn’t a physical imbalance which is a quite different form of depression. I do believe in life after death, has so many experiences confirming this, mostly out of the blue without actively seeking. Hope these comments help, Jo!

Thank you for sharing such personal thoughts Mo – in the face of what must be a terrifying challenge. I also decided not too long ago that if faced with chemicals or naturals I would definitely not go with the chemicals. Since I’ve been back online I’ve been meaning to contact you to do a spread on your fabulous art in a blog interview. If you are willing that would be wonderful! I must say, with the research for The Secret Life of People I’ve come across loads of people who were totally healed from cancer in the most unlikely ways, and we know what we want and need for our own lives and bodies, so huge respect for your decision. Thank you again – we will be in tough again on a regular blogger basis at the very least. Much love!! ❤

I enjoyed reading your post, Jo. Your book sounds interesting. Your cover is very eye-catching and so is your title. I basically find my life fulfilling although sometimes I feel overwhelmed with social media. If money were no object I would spend more time travelling and going to writers’ conferences around the world, meeting other writers. I don’t necessarily believe in life after death but I hope so. I find that life is too short for everything there is to experience. Good luck with your writing and I’m happy that you’re in a good place. ❤

    1. Do you believe that you are living a fulfilled life? Not exactly, but I’m getting there.
    2. Do you think that people have a purpose, and if so, do you know what yours is? Yes and yes.
    3. Are you satisfied with the way the world and your country is governed? Hell, no!
    4. Do you think that civilised societies today are on the right track? Progress is being made, but very slowly.
    5. If you work, are you happy with your job? I’m happy with what I do.
    6. If money was no object, what would you do with your days? Travel more.
    7. Do you believe in life after death or reincarnation? Absolutely.
    8. Do you believe that there will be consequences for good or evil acts? I believe people reap their own consequences in the end.
    9. Do you or someone that you know have problems with anxiety or depression? Yes… Both.
Great post, Jo. Your new book sounds intriguing. Please check out my latest review: https://authorkevincooper.com/2019/04/30/echoes-of-narcissus-in-the-gardens-of-delight/
