Postal Postal Workers and Coming Covers

Posted on

This district is still affected by the postal strike action, and seeing as how they are also my internet suppliers I’m still popping on and off line like the mad hatter all the time. I also haven’t been able to get hold of my actual mail since August. I’ll be heading to the post office again – ever hopeful – because I’ve totally run out of my paper books now, and that’s just plain bad. I’m expecting lots of other books and parcels too, so I’m more than willing to hop over the counter and find them all myself. Strikers pretending to be at work meet crazy scribbler lady – should be interesting.

One of the neighbours has been making an amazing racket, knocking a building down, rebuilding it, and now they’re having a borehole drilled. So between eyeballing all that, and my obsessive checking to see if the internet’s on, I’m not getting a lot of writing done. In the meantime, my awesome cover designer for my Shadow People series, Chris Graham, has been hard at work on the covers for the third and fourth in the series coming out early in 2015, so we will be doing a cover reveal for them tomorrow. Exciting times!

The heirloom tomatoes I planted for the cover of one of my books to be published this year have sprouted and all seem to be doing nicely. I’ve done most of the work for that cover so far, and the book itself is well along the road to being ready now. It’s the best job in the world, this indie trip. Now to see if I can clatter around the internet for a while before being booted out again. Spring has sprung here by the way, with lots of visitors in the garden to munch the fruit on the palms, and I’ve tried to get a picture or two. I’m still fairly clueless with my photography thing, and at this point I’m mainly getting images of departing little birdie bums, but I did get a couple I like a bit by accident, so pics for future covers are definitely going to happen.

    Hello Jo,
I’m sorry to hear of the postal strike 😦 It must be very inconvenient. I hope my cards will arrive to you safely.
Thank you for keeping us updated, and beautiful photos 🙂
    Warm wishes,

Hello Takami my lovely friend, and thank you for liking my pictures – that is wonderful coming from you! I’m really looking forward to opening your cards – I know that they are actually here at the post office, so I’m going to be firm now and refuse to leave the building until I have it all. HUGS! 🙂

Sucks about the mail. Bring some tomatoes to help you battle your way over the counter. 🙂

Thanks Charles. 🙂 I am worrying about the mail, even though I’ve been assured that nothing will be sent back – I don’t believe them. So tomatoes and dodgy eggs is sounding like a plan already. 😀

What about stuff that could go bad? They should at least do something to let people get packages. God help anyone that is waiting for medicine or important documents.

Thank goodness that Jo Robinson’s dodgy Internet decided to pop back up to allow her to post one of her always entertaining posts, just in time for reblog Saturday – Jo, sending spells and potions for renewed broadband strength and agility to jump post office counters….hugs

Aaah – my lovely gorgeous Sally – thank you! I spent two hours on the phone with them today, eventually lost the plot, got transferred to one of the bosses, and hey presto, I’m back online! 😀 It’s given me hope for the post tomorrow too – will take some toys to throw I reckon. HUGS and LOVES! ❤ ❤

That’s a lovely thing to say – thank you Geraldine! Those birdies took pity on me and sat still for a little – most of the other pics I took were just either the beak end or the tail end. HUGS!

Oh Jo… my teeth are on edge just thinking about that noise! (I’m horribly sensitive to noise, and living in this townhouse, several times i’ve endured neighbors on the other side of the wall (both right and left) renovating their homes. So I sharply relate to that.
The tomatoes and the covers are huge positives though, and i know that’s where you’re focusing. Hang in there. Gigantic hugs! 🙂

It’s nice and quiet again today thank goodness, and the internet’s working – cup definitely runneths over. 😀 Stuck so close to neighbours in a townhouse is not cool though – at least here there’s a bit of space between. I have more of a problem with the nosiness – have to see what people are up to all the time. 😀 HUGS and LOVE! ❤

I remember when you planted your tomatoes and I am honestly glad they are doing fine. Just don’t get tempted and throw them at the postal workers 😉 Good to have you back

Thanks Ilka! I’m really happy with my little tomatoes – got four varieties all popped up. I chat to them and angst about the little guys in case I kill them before their moment on my cover. HUGS!

Don’t you love it? First the postal strike and then the internet. Hope they never go down together. What a horrible thought! Sorry to hear about your inconvenience. Sigh. 🙂

It sucks – the problem is my internet actually does come through the physical phone line, and ever since a pole got struck by lightning it’s been playing up, then every time I report it, apparently someone on the other side marks the reports as job complete. I’m also going postal now though, so those guys are not going to have fun with me tomorrow. 😀 HUGS!

Thank you my lovely Sherri! It’s been a bit of a nightmare – you can’t work properly with it being so bad, but they did something at the source today (post epic tantrum from me) and it seems to be staying on, so I’m hopeful that I can start getting back on track. LOTS of lovely emails waiting – you know that fun. In fact I often wonder how you manage – you get more comments on your posts than any other blog I’ve ever seen. That’s because everyone LOVES you I know, but it must be hard to keep up. HUGS and LOVES ❤ XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ❤

Oh Jo, I’m so so glad to know this good news…long may it rein, I hope…but you will be an even busier lady catching up with all those lovely emails 😉 I can well imagine how horribly frustrating it’s been for you 😦
Oh you are such a sweetheart. I read in one post recently that having a lot of comments on a blog don’t equate to the kind of engagement we as writers really need. That it’s not our readers (community) we should be thinking about but our ‘silent’ followers and readers who never comment or even like. The ones who we know are reading by constantly checking our stats for specific posts but have no idea who they are. Our target market apparently. I was a bit taken aback by it I’ll admit. Oh, and I also had an email from a blogger telling me to ‘get off her damn list’ because I hadn’t been over to her blog in a while. BTW, she hasn’t been over to mine in months but that isn’t why I didn’t go over to hers. I didn’t because I didn’t like the way she constantly crammed down her facts and figures and ebooks down my throat. Would love to know your thoughts when you have a mo…But I know one thing, you’ve got my back and I can’t tell you what that means. My hubby and daughter tell me I’ve got to get tougher for this business and they’re right! You inspire me so much my lovely friend. I hope you get caught up soon and able to work properly again…lots of love and hugs to you as always… ❤ ❤ ❤ xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
PS…Meant to say, I've decided to do the office space blog separately…and soon 🙂

Thanks Olga! Ha haaa! I actually got a little cross when I couldn’t open anything again today, so I wasn’t my usual sweet self when I phoned them. Seems my little tantrum was a good idea because now it’s back on and I can actually open things again. Good idea about taking pictures too – maybe if I point a camera at them tomorrow they’ll give me my mail. 😀 HUGS! X

Thank you Peter! I’ve never actually owned a camera before in my like, so I’m totally clueless about all the buttons. It’s a lovely thing to do though, so I’m making a huge effort to get the technical things in the old brain. HUGS!
